FINN

I’m nervous about our date. I’ve never done anything like this for a woman before, and now I’m starting to second guess my plan. Maybe I should’ve stuck with a traditional restaurant.

“Everything okay?” Valerie asks, already too in-tune with my thoughts and feelings. It’s rare anyone can read me, and never anyone I just met. It only solidifies what my gut has been telling me about Val all along.

“I planned something … unconventional.”

“That sounds fun. Like an adventure.” Her upbeat tone relieves some of the pressure to impress her. Because I want to leave an impression on her she can’t shake. I want her to see that she means the world to me. That despite hardly knowing each other, there’s something special between us we can’t deny. “Do I get any hints?”

I reach my hand out for hers. “I was hoping to surprise you.”

“I like surprises.”

“Good.” I just hope she likes this one. I force myself to stop worrying—something I don’t do often—and use the drive as an opportunity to get to know more about her. Something tells me once we finish dinner, there might not be a lot of talking going on. “What do you do for work?”

“I’m a computer programmer.” The way Val says this is too nonchalant. She’s not giving herself enough credit for how impressive that really is.

“Wow, that’s really cool.”

“Cool that I’m kind of a nerd?” Fuck me, I love that teasing voice of hers. It’s almost enough to make me pull over on the side of the road so I can give her one helluva kiss while I run my hands over her curvy body.

“Hell ya.”

“It’s not as impressive as it sounds,” Val counters. “I work out of a cubicle.”

“Do you like what you do?”

Valerie stares out the window, surely noticing that we’re leaving the suburban area for the country. I have a house on a small acreage just inside the county line. It’s not much of a place, but it has a lot of potential. If I stay.

“Yeah, actually it’s a pretty cool job. I like writing code.”

I turn off the highway and onto a dirt road, waiting for the inevitable question. But it doesn’t come. “I promise I’m not taking you into the woods to murder you.”

Valerie squeeze my hand. “I didn’t think you would.” There’s such trust in her words and in those mesmerizing emerald eyes. Trust that should take so much longer to earn. Another sign that this is meant to be.

I pull into my driveway and hope like hell she doesn’t think this date is stupid. “This is my home,” I tell her. “The date’s in the backyard.”

“Backyard?”

I help her out of the truck, unable to resist kissing again. It’s one of my favorite things. I allow my hands to roam more freely, sliding them over the curve of her hips and up her sides. I yearn to touch other parts of her, but there’s time for all that. My dick is hard within two seconds flat. I know she feels my length pressed against her belly.
